Hi! I'm Bec, founder of frugal

I prepare meals for my family, to a (now very) tight budget and want to share that, hoping to inspire, educate and connect with like-minded people.

MY STORY

My most rewarding roles, are motherhood and wife-life!

Being the center and soul of our home has challenged and bored me at times - fulfilled and excited me in others. As a couple, inspired by diagnosis (of a combination) of ADHD and Autism for both of the children, spending quality time before-and-after school was a priority. That priority comes at a cost in today’s extremely expensive economy. I have worked primarily from home, freelancing and in the family business so I could have school holidays with the kids as well.

The cost of frugal life... Home hair cuts, manicures and facials. Home made birthday celebrations, DIY ‘take away’, movie nights, lawn mowing and gardening. I drove my 20 year-old Lancer that was replaced at 380,000kms! I am THAT frugal!

The investment in frugal life... connection! A family that has navigated and remained connected through toddler tantrums, teen angst and TikTok.

Life changed...

As a single mum when I met my husband, I did not have the internet, a smartphone or an email address. I knew nothing of internet banking, drawing cash on payday and splitting money into jars - not the worst budget!

My husband and I have run businesses together, conquered market stalls, and online pursuits. We have seen our fair share of tight budgets and frugal feeds with unpaid invoices, not to mention the ebb and flow of clients when self employed; crippling tax, licensing and fees of running an SME in Australia. All while becoming a dance monkey for social media!

In 2023 I sustained a spinal injury and experienced a delay in diagnosis of a serious spinal condition, Cauda Equina Syndrome.  Left with neurological deficits in my right leg and lower organs, as well as battling chronic pain and fatigue, my employability diminished at the time I was meant to be springing back into the workforce. We burned through savings and have set a tight budget.

So I changed...

I decided to start Masters Of Frugal as a way of sharing what I know across the vast array of fields I have studied and worked in - while honoring my physical needs as I learn to navigate life with a minor and somewhat invisible disability.

I prepare meals for my family, to a (now very) tight budget and want to share that, hoping to inspire, educate and connect with like-minded people. Frugal does not have to mean boring, tasteless or simply soup. With a few shopping tips, kitchen skills and affordable recipes, less can be more.

So, fellow Frugaler’s let's connect and make frugal cool again. Was it ever? I don’t know. What I do know is that Frugal life means less waste, more gratitude and a reminder of what is really important in life, our health, our family and our friendships!
